Paulo Pereira elected as rector of NOVA University Lisbon

The General Council of NOVA University Lisbon elected Paulo Pereira as Rector of the institution this tuesday, 16, following a public hearing, reproduced at NOVA Youtube Channel.

Paulo Pereira is Research Coordinator at NOVA Medical School (NMS) | NOVA University Lisbon, where he leads a research group dedicated to the study of degenerative retinal diseases. He was Vice-President of the Foundation for Science and Technology (2012-2015) and Director of the Center for Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of Coimbra.

Currently, coordinates the iNOVA4Health unit, focused on biomedical research. As a professor, founded and coordinates the international master’s program NBR – NOVA Biomedical Research, recognized for its pedagogical model, participated in the creation of doctoral programs, and is the director of several curricular units.

At NMS, he led high-impact national and European projects and coordinated the COVID-19 task force, strengthening the University’s response to the pandemic. He has also held several executive and collegiate positions in academic bodies. Internationally recognized, he promotes scientific and cultural cooperation, bringing science, art, and society closer together.
