The United Nations Sustainable Development Report 2024 will be presented this Monday in Lisbon, during the meeting of SDSN Portugal, a network chaired by NOVA University Lisbon.
“Universities, as sources of knowledge creation and dissemination, are essential partners for governments, the private sector, and communities in addressing the many faces of sustainability challenges. (…) NOVA University is strongly committed to the UN 2030 Agenda and Europe’s mission to become green, socially open, and fair. Our ambition is to be a leading university in interdisciplinary research with high social impact and to be among the pioneers in the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Green Deal”, stated the Rector of NOVA University Lisbon, João Sàágua, at the beginning of the conference Paving the Way to the Pact of the Future, which brings together a series of prestigious national and international speakers at the Ismaili Center in Lisbon, and has as its highlight the public presentation of the Sustainable Development Report 2024, prepared by the UN SDSN.
As the Rector of NOVA added: “We are fully committed to taking concrete actions to make this network relevant in Portugal and beyond. This conference is the first example. We have more than 600 participants from over 70 countries. Therefore, these two days will be an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and promote full global partnerships to enhance our common mission. By taking this commitment seriously, NOVA is making its motto more alive than ever: to be a civic and global university”.
Structured to make a significant contribution to the Future Summit to be held in New York on 22-23 September 2024, the Paving the Way to the Pact of the Future conference – which you can follow here – is organised by SDSN (an acronym for Sustainable Development Solutions Network), the network chaired by NOVA, and runs until the end of the day this Tuesday 18th, with an unmissable programme that you can consult here.
