QS under 50

NOVA University Lisbon is ranked 21st among European universities under 50 years old according to QS under 50 rankings which evaluate criteria such as reputation and internationalization.

QS Top 50 under 50

NOVA is in the top 8 of young universities in Europe in the five areas of knowledge evaluated by QS:
- Arts & Humanities (6th position);
- Engineering & Technology: (8th position);
- Life Sciences & Medicine (7th position);
- Natural Sciences (5th  position);
- Social Sciences & Management (7th  position).

Ranking Eduniversal Masters 2019

Eduniversal classifies every year Management programs at the Masters level from the world's top Universities. This year:

  1. In the Eduniversal - Masters Ranking 2019, NOVA was listed in 24 of the 50 evaluated programs.
  2. Among these programs, NOVA is in the European Top 10 in 21 areas and in the European Top 5 in 15.
  3. NOVA University is the Portuguese leader in 22 of the 24 evaluated areas.
Ranking Eduniversal Masters 2019

Leveraged in the 5 Palmes prestige of Nova SBE (only 39 European institutions hold this distinction among the worldwide top 100 Business Schools), 5 Schools from NOVA University have ranked programs, being clearly the best Portuguese University. From the 24 listed areas:

- 14 from NOVA School of Business and Economics;
-  6 from NOVA Information Management School;
- 1 partnership between NOVA Information Management School/ NOVA Law School;
- 1 from NOVA Law School;
- 1 from NOVA School of Science and Technology;
- 1 from NOVA School of Public Health.

U-Multirank 2019

NOVA University Lisbon achieved the highest score of A (Very Good) in 10 indicators of the global U-Multirank 2019, and is thus ranked 17th among public European universities.


CWTS Leiden

The Leiden Ranking analyses the scientific performance of more than 1000 universities worldwide.

In 2019, NOVA is the Portuguese institution whose scientific articles have the highest impact on a global scale, with 12,5% of all scientific output in the TOP 10% of the most cited publications.

At the national level, NOVA also leads in the normalized impact of its output, which is 20% above world average, and is also the number one in terms of research collaboration.

NOVA also leads in Portugal with the highest proportion of publications authored by female researchers (50,6%), occupying the 6th and 9th places at European an global levels, respectively.

Times Higher Education Young University Rankings

For the 7th year in a row, NOVA University Lisbon has been featured in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings. Only 61 European Universities outrank NOVA.

Globally, NOVA is ranked in the 101-150 range.


Times Higher Education Teaching Rankings

NOVA is in the Top 4 in Europe among young universities and leads at national level according to the Times Higher Education Teaching Rankings.

Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings

TheTimes Higher Education University Impact Rankings monitor the performance of universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). NOVA ranks in the following positions among young European institutions:

- 17th in SDG 3, Health and Welfare;
- 7th in SDG 9, Industry and Innovation;
- 6th in SDG 16, Justice and Inclusion.

Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020

NOVA has been consistently leading at the national level in the International Outlook indicator and is ranked between positions 601–800 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020.

Shanghai Academic Ranking 2019

NOVA rose to the 401-500 range in the Shanghai Academic Ranking 2019.  The academic excellence of NOVA is confirmed by the rise in the 3 Research indicators.
