EUTOPIA Talks: review the three talks already held at NOVA Cairo with researchers from the alliance of European universities to which NOVA belongs

NOVA's campus in the Egyptian capital, the only one of a Portuguese university across borders, will host a series of talks throughout 2024 with top researchers from the various partners of EUTOPIA, the alliance of European universities to which NOVA belongs.

Under the title "Bridging Continents through Scientific Dialogues", three lectures have already taken place.

The first, on 11 February, was led by Antonio Luna Garcia, Associate Professor at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, and was dedicated to the theme "Cities on the Edge. Sustainability challenges for Mediterranean cities. Tales from Barcelona", presented the challenges faced by contemporary Mediterranean cities and explored issues such as housing, mobility, governance, and urban metabolism.

The third lecture, held on 10 March, focused on artificial intelligence and archaeology. Marcello Pelillo, Professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, presented the case of RePAIR - an acronym for "Reconstructing the Past": Artificial Intelligence and Robotics meet Cultural Heritage" - an innovative initiative that integrates robotics, computer vision, and artificial intelligence to revolutionise archaeological research. In this case, RePAIR's first goal is to reconstruct the fresh parties of Pompeii.

NOVA in Cairo as in Lisbon

NOVA Cairo is the first campus of a Portuguese university abroad and is located on the outskirts of Cairo, where the new capital of Egypt is being built.

Five different courses from the Nova School of Business and Economics, the NOVA School of Technology Executives, and the NOVA Information and Management School are offered to students at this first Portuguese campus in North Africa. Courses and exams will be in English, and the same content and methodology will be followed simultaneously in Cairo and Lisbon.
