"Our summer school gives students an opportunity to bridge the gap between high school and their next steps in life," commented Fouad Hashem, who joined NOVA SBE in 2018 as an assistant professor, and organized the NOVA Summer School Lisbon (NSSL) alongside NOVA's International Development Unit. This debut edition, which took place between 10 and 22 July 2022, was attended by 24 teenagers, aged 16 to 19, from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, India, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Mozambique, Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
The programme included wide-ranging subjects, such as entrepreneurship, communication skills, and information technology. DAY 1 for example, started with identifying potential career choices and was complemented on DAY 8 by top-rated experts who lectured about university life and the application process to get into the world’s best universities.
Located at our Campolide Campus, NOVA’s student residence stands in the heart of Lisbon. From our central address, the students were able to visit other schools of the University such as Nova Medical School (NMS), Information Management School (IMS) and Nova School of Business and Economics (SBE). Moreover, the students enjoyed days out to the Gulbenkian Museum, the Museum of Money and Benfica football club, as well as trips outside Lisbon.
NOVA Summer School Lisbon also offered activities like a walking tour of Belem (see photos below) and a day out surfing. The teaching programme was supported by ‘Galp Upcoming Energies’, Galp's open innovation platform, which offered grants to (NSSL) participants for the next 5 years. In this edition, two grants of one thousand euros (€1,000) were awarded. Please see our website for more details: www.novasummerschool.com
