Investiture ceremony at NOVA: two new Pro-rectors, the new Director of NOVA School of Law and the new University Administrator

The Board of Deans of this Thursday, October 20th, was highlighted by the investiture of the Pro-rector Prof. Dr Clara Rowland, the Pro-rector Master José Branco, the Director of NOVA School of Law Prof. Dr Margarida Lima Rego and the Administrator of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa Dra. Ana Rita Marante.  

The solemn moment happened at the Nova School of Business and Economics (SBE), at the Carcavelos campus, the chosen scenery for the monthly meeting of the Board of Deans, the Rector's advisory and support body in the management of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.   

This Thursday, October 20th, took office the Pro-Rector Prof. Clara Rowland, who will be responsible for the area of Culture, the Pro-Rector Master José Branco, who will coordinate the areas of Institutional Development and Fund Raising, Human Resources, Legal Affairs and Communication, and the Administrator of NOVA Dra. Ana Rita Marante.   

It’s also the moment for the public intake of the newly appointed NOVA School of Law Dean, Prof. Dra. Margarida Lima Rego, elected for the quadrennium 2022-2026.   

  

Brief biographical notes 

Clara Rowland  

Associate Professor in the Department of Portuguese Studies at NOVA FCSH, she is part of the faculty of the PhD in Linguistic Disciplines and Foreign Literatures at the University of Pisa.   

Between 2003 and 2016, she was a lecturer at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, where she directed the MA and the FCT International PhD Programme in Comparative Studies and was responsible for the creation and first direction of the MA in Brazilian Studies (FL-UL and ICSUL).   

She develops her work in the areas of Brazilian Literature, Comparative Literature and Inter-Art Studies. Between 2013 and 2015, he was an elected member of the Delegate Assembly of the Modern Language Association of America.  

  

José Branco   

Graduated in Economics, from the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão, in 1987, and he completed his master's in public administration, at the University of Minho, in 2003.   

Having begun his professional career at the Ministry of Economy in 1986, he specialized in the area of Public Finance. As a public manager, he was Head of the Information Systems Division in the Directorate General of Budget (1993-1994,), Director of Administrative Services in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (1994-1997), Director of the Financial and Property Services in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (1997-2004) and Director of the Municipal Department of Property and Procurement in the City Council of Porto (2004-2006).   

In 2006, he took up the post of Deputy Secretary General in the Ministry of Economy. Between 2006-2010 he was Municipal Director of Finance and Property, Municipality of Porto and between 2010 and 2018 he was Administrator at the University of Porto, before assuming the same position at the NOVA University of Lisbon.   

  

Margarida Lima Rego  

Associate Professor with Aggregation at NOVA School of Law, where she has taught regularly since 2005.   

As deputy dean in 2018, she coordinates the NOVA Knowledge Centre for Data-Driven Law and the PhD Programme in Law. She currently teaches the subjects "Law of Obligations and Difficult Cases" in the undergraduate programme, a "Jean Monnet Module on EU Insurance Law" in the master's programme and "Private Law" in the doctoral programme.  

She was Of Counsel at Morais Leitão, where she led the transversal group of insurance, reinsurance and pension funds, until July 2019 to devote herself to her academic career, maintaining, nevertheless, some legal advisory activity, being regularly consulted on various matters of Portuguese and Lusophone law.   

   

Ana Rita Marante   

Degree in Business Management from Universidade Lusíada in 2002, a postgraduate degree in Public Accounting, Public Finance and Budget Management from Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão in 2008 and a postgraduate degree in Higher Education Management from Instituto de Educação da Universidade de Lisboa at UL in 2012.  

Representative of the non-teaching and non-research staff of the General Council of the New University of Lisbon since 2018, she was also Executive Administrator of the Foundation Support Services and Team Leader of the "NOVA Foundation/ERP" Project.   

Head of the Financial Division since 2010, she is a Certified Accountant since 2002.
