NOVA and other EUTOPIA Universities celebrate the start of the academic year at the European Parliament

Under the theme "Europe, EUTOPIA and the need for a new renaissance", the event was organised in collaboration with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), one of the member universities of the Alliance of European Universities, of which NOVA is a member, took place this Friday 29 September, in the Hemicycle of the European Parliament.

An important moment of the ceremony was the solemn signing of an agreement by the Presidents of the EUTOPIA Universities. This document formally establishes EUTOPIA as an international non-profit institution, guaranteeing the legal existence and administrative autonomy of the Alliance.

This step underlines EUTOPIA's commitment to promoting partnerships and encouraging collaboration in the academic world across Europe. As part of the European Universities Initiative, EUTOPIA is expanding its path towards the creation of a European meta-university, bridging higher education, research and innovation across the continent.

Tiziana Lippiello, Rector of the Ca'Foscari University of Venice and President of EUTOPIA, highlighted the importance of this inaugural event: "This first joint inauguration of the academic year at the European Parliament is an important milestone for EUTOPIA. It symbolises our unity and common commitment to promote higher education, research and knowledge transfer in Europe. The creation of a legal entity for EUTOPIA demonstrates our commitment to promoting excellence, innovation and inclusiveness throughout our alliance. We look forward to continuing to work together to make a lasting impact on the European education landscape".
