Lisbon will host, for the first time in nearly 80 years, the 46th World Conference of the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM), an organization founded in 1947 with consultative relations with UNESCO and an important role in promoting knowledge about the world's musical variety.
Organized by the Institute of Ethnomusicology - Center for Studies in Music and Dance (INET-md), the research centre of NOVA FCSH, this Conference will bring to town more than 700 ethnomusicologists from around the world to discuss a range of socially significant investigations and innovations in music and dance research, covering the fields of health, climate, human rights, industries, archiving, ocean and land connections, and cosmopolitanism. Several musical moments are also planned at the entrance of the Rectory of NOVA University Lisbon, in Campolide.
