Well-Being Week @ NOVA

8 May 2023 to 12 May 2023

In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, NOVA University Lisbon will promote the Wellness Week, from May 8th to 12th, with activities on Campolide Campus, Caparica Campus and Nova SBE Campus.

This week's programme will cover topics such as food, mental health, physical activity, volunteering, therapies and recreational activities.

By creating moments of sharing, reflection and interaction between the elements of the NOVA community, a team spirit will be fostered promoting an increase in the quality of life of the participants.

8 MAY, MONDAY

10:00 – 11:00 | Opening session

Activity in English.

The “Mindful Mondays” project, at FCT NOVA, has existed since 2019, with the aim of creating moments to free the mind from distractions, promoting a space of positive energy for the week ahead. It's 15 minutes of guided meditation, followed by a few minutes of silence and reflection.

12:00 - 13:00 | Science and Well-Being – why is mindfulness practiced in universities?, with Teresa Santos Silva and Antje Disterheft

14:00 - 15:00 | Healthy Eating, with Inês Mota, from NOVA Medical School

Location: Rectorate' Senate Room

Food has a preponderant role in the well-being of the individual. Taking care of ourselves also means taking care of the way we choose to feed ourselves. Healthy eating has important health benefits, in particular to prevent the most common chronic diseases today, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and oncological diseases. In this lecture, we will highlight the role of food in promoting a healthy state of health, recalling the principles associated with healthy eating, challenging the academic community to briefly learn about their eating habits and make them aware of simple strategies that can make it more appropriate.

Location: Nova SBE (Westmont Hospitality Hall)

Life can be uncertain at times and full of confusion. As students, finding a sense of inner direction and meaning can be tough. Connecting to a clear vision and then directing our energies accordingly can, however, give us the necessary power to succeed, as well as allow us to lead ourselves better and, as a result, be better equipped to lead others. Join this workshop and learn practical tools and strategies to help you gain more clarity about your values, strengths, and dreams - before you can finally turn them into reality!

“In the dances, composed of authentic and spontaneous movement, one lives in the here and now. Music, movement and the group are the door to infinite beauty. It is not necessary to know how to dance. Biodanza is a system whose regular practice has therapeutic effects and promotes the improvement of physical and psychological well-being. In the classes there is a hormonal stimulation with physiological effects proven in studies carried out in the department of psychology at the University of Leipzig, Germany.”

18:00 - 19:30 | Importance of Sleep, with Carlos Filipe, from NOVA Medical School

Location: Rectorate´ Senate Room

What is the importance of sleep and sleep hygiene, in particular, in the case of university students? Sleep is a dynamic and complex state. The quality of its structure is crucial for, namely, the consolidation of memories and cognitive performance. Sleep is, in particular, greatly influenced by behavioral factors and lifestyle habits. It is, therefore, of great importance to take care of the quality of sleep by adopting behaviors that promote it.
