NOVA among the founders of a Geopark in Portugal's West Region

AGEO – Associação Geoparque Oeste will be responsible for the dinamization of the application of the aspiring Geoparque do Oeste to the category of UNESCO world geopark.

On September 27th, AGEO – Associação Geoparque Oeste was registered, with the founding members of the Lourinhã Group of Ethnology and Archeology, Torres Vedras History Society, NOVA University Lisbon, as well as other individual signatories.

This non-profit private association will be responsible for streamlining the application process for the aspiring Geoparque do Oeste to the category of UNESCO world geopark.

In this way, it aims at the preservation, conservation, valorization, dissemination and dynamization of the natural and cultural heritage, with a special emphasis on geological heritage, with a perspective of deepening and disseminating scientific knowledge, promoting education, tourism and sustainable development of population and territory.

The aspiring West Geopark project involves the territory of the municipalities of Bombarral, Lourinhã, Óbidos, Peniche and Torres Vedras and intends to be a project that aggregates the identity of these territories. By the end of the year the main initiatives to be implemented in 2019 will be announced .
