"Celebrating this important milestone in the year in which NOVA University turns 50 is a happy occasion to highlight the importance of promoting human rights in society"

NOVA celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

In his opening speech at the ceremony, the Rector of NOVA, João Sàágua, also noted that celebrating this milestone of 75 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights also allows us to "reflect on the progress that has been made, the setbacks that have occurred and the threats that plague the world today". This and always remembering that "this Declaration remains the main international reference instrument for guaranteeing freedom, equality and justice for all".

Organized by NOVA School of Law and the United Nations Regional Information Centre - with the support of NOVA Cultura - the event, which closed the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of NOVA University of Lisbon, was also a day of reflection, debate, and discussion on two topical issues: Human Rights and Equality, and Human Rights and Climate.

With a musical performance by the ANIM Orchestra of the National Institute of Music of Afghanistan, it ended with the inauguration of the mural FREE AND EQUAL, inspired by the first article of the Declaration, by the artist Michelangelo Marra, integrated into the urban art project for NOVA's 50th anniversary.
