Fernandes Fellowships: applications open for grants to fund researcher exchanges between NOVA and Warwick

Thanks to yet another generous donation from a NOVA and Warwick alumni, a second round of grants is now being launched to support the exchange of researchers between both institutions. Applications until December 5th

It was in June, a few days before the EUTOPIA Week in Lisbon, that a generous donation from Rui Fernandes, a former student of both institutions, was publicly announced to finance a total of five scholarships for exchanges between NOVA and this university, NOVA's partner in EUTOPIA, the alliance of European universities to which both belong.

Thanks to the donation, applications are open for a second round of these Fellowships Fernandes, which already had a first edition in 2018.

These fellowships aim to foster long-term interdisciplinary research collaborations and to deepen educational and research ties between our institutions, to develop further the partnership created through participation in the EUTOPIA European University.

This means that five researchers from Warwick and NOVA will each receive funding to spend six months at the other institution to continue their research.

"I am delighted to be able to help create opportunities for talented researchers at both NOVA University of Lisbon and the University of Warwick," says Rui Fernandes, who says he enjoyed studying economics at Warwick after studying at NOVA in the 1990s.

This scholarship programme is currently considered one of the most successful at this British university.
