They take place every six months and are considered milestones in the construction of EUTOPIA European University, the alliance of ten European universities that NOVA University Lisbon joined in September 2021. In its 7th edition, this EUTOPIA WEEK has the added value of taking place in the year we celebrate our 50th anniversary.
Running from June 19 to 23, the meeting is dedicated to the theme A Better Europe and several sessions are planned to debate the six priorities of the European Commission:
the European Green Commitment aims to transform the EU into a modern, resource-efficient economy while preserving Europe's natural environment.
the digital transition, which combines investment in research and innovation with data protection and equipping people with the necessary skills;
having an economy that serves people, secures jobs and reduces inequalities;
strengthen the EU's voice on the global stage, defending open and fair trade;
defend fundamental rights and the rule of law as a bastion of equality, tolerance and social justice;
give a new impetus to European democracy by contributing to the strengthening of Europe's democratic processes.
Besides the Rectors and Presidents of the ten universities of the Alliance - Pompeu Fabra, Ca Foscari, Gothenburg, Dresden, Warwick, CY Cergy, VU Brussels, Ljubljana, and Babes-Bolyai University and NOVA University Lisbon - the meeting also counts with the presence of representatives of global university institutions with which EUTOPIA has already established partnerships: Stellenbosch University (South Africa), Rabat International University (Morocco), Monash University (Australia) and Kyungpook National University (South Korea).
EUTOPIA European University is an inclusive community of universities sharing common values and agendas. Through collaborative research, challenge-based learning of teaching excellence, increased student and faculty mobility and shared innovation, EUTOPIA seeks to address local and global challenges, contributing to a new model of higher education in Europe.
