The HAITool is a project of NOVA's Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical funded by the EEA Grants, aimed at reducing infections in hospitals through the use of an app to support the management of infection, which enables doctors’ informed decision-making process on what specific antibiotic should be administered to each hospitalized patient.
The project will contribute to reduce the "antibiotic pressure in the ward", reducing the occurrence of resistances and also hospital infections – these results can be measured by antibiotic doses, number of infections and length of patient hospitalization.
In an interview with Portuguese Radio Renascença, the project PI, Luís Lapão, explains the initiative and how will it impact and benefit patients and health services.
