"Eurovisions: Perspectives from the Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts” is the title of an international conference that will take place on February 17 at Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (NOVA FCSH). This Conference marks the beginning of a cycle of conferences regarding the two major musical and television shows in Portugal and Europe: the Festival RTP da Canção and the Eurovision Song Contest.
The conference cycle "Eurovisions", organized by RTP and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), aims to bring together researchers from all over Europe to reflect on the privileged position these events take in the media and the musical, social and economic contexts.
The first session will have the presence of Adelaide Ferreira, Eládio Clímaco and Nuno Galopo. The other sessions will take place between May 7 and 9, during the period of the Eurovision week.
Although the Eurovision Song Contest is the target of more in-depth scholarly research, the Festival RTP da Canção is also now being explored. The Institute of Ethnomusicology - Center for Studies in Music and Dance (INET-md) of NOVA FCSH, with financial support from the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT), is launching the academic bases that scientifically contextualize this Festival.
