In the year of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, NOVA University Lisbon organises the second edition of the Festival Causa Effect - The New Jazz at NOVA, dedicated to the theme of freedom.
Once again presenting a careful selection of the most innovative jazz musicians from the Portuguese and international scene, curated by Pedro Costa, this year's festival is dedicated to exploring, over three days at the Campolide campus, the dialogue between improvisation and creativity, and jazz as free music.
Through concerts, masterclasses, and debates, Cause Effect '24 will host the annual meeting of the Europe Jazz Network and reflect on the link between experimentation and innovation, so important to the University.
This edition will feature the participation of three key figures in the international improvised music scene - Eve Risser, Tim Berne, and Michael Formanek -, propose several premieres and new encounters, explore unlikely instruments such as the harp, the marimba or Eve Risser's prepared piano, and include moments of reflection, debate, and discussion, contributing to the articulation between research and artistic practice that defines the NOVA Cultura programme.
