NOVA is present in one out of four Associated Laboratories of the Foundation for Science and Technology

The NOVA University Lisbon has just been granted the Associated Laboratory Statute (LA) by the Foundation for Science and Technology for 10 of the laboratories to which it is connected, according to what was announced by that entity. The announcement follows the contest launched by the Foundation for Science and Technology, of which the outcome is now known. The contest had 45 applications, 40 of which were qualified for that purpose.

These 10 Associated Laboratories (which are coordinated or with the participation of NOVA) will benefit from an annual financing of 5.1M € for a period of 5 years, which corresponds to 22% of the available annual budget of approximately 24M €.

The Associated Laboratories qualified by the Foundation for Science and Technology represent structural components of the National Scientific and Technological System, consisting of research and development institutions (R&D) or consortia of R&D institutions that make explicit institutional commitments for the pursuit of national scientific and technological policy objectives. In this sense, these laboratories must present a dimension of human resources and scientific infrastructure that allows them, in a sustained way, to promote scientific and technical careers for doctorates.

The evaluation of the applications submitted in 2020, and now released, was conducted by a national panel coordinated by Manuel Nunes da Ponte, who had the collaboration of an international scientific council.

Below is the list of NOVA's 10 LA, whose applications have received approval:

i3N - Institute for Nanostructures, Nanomodeling and Nanofabrication (NOVA FCT);

LS4FUTURE- Life Sciences for a Healthy and Sustainable Future (NOVA ITQB - coordenação, NOVA Medical School);

LAQV/REQUIMTE - Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry - Clean Technologies and Processes (NOVA FCT);

CHANGE - Institute for Global Change and Sustainability (NOVA FCT);

ARI-NET - Infrastructure Network in Aquatic Research (NOVA FCT);

i4HB - Institute for Health and Bioeconomics (NOVA FCT);

RISE - Health Research Network: from the Lab to the Community (NOVA Medical School);

LASI - Associated Laboratory of Intelligent Systems (NOVA FCT);

REAL - Translation and Innovation Towards Global Health (NOVA Medical School);

IN2PAST - Associated Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory (NOVA FCSH).

Two of these Associated Laboratories, i3N - NOVA FCT Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodeling and Nanofabrication, and LS4FUTURE, Life Sciences for a Healthy and Sustainable Future at NOVA ITQB, achieved the maximum rating (100%) in the evaluation carried out by the Foundation for Science and Technology.
