Passing of Professor Maria Francisca Xavier

The NOVA University Lisbon deeply regrets the passing of Professor Maria Francisca Xavier.

Maria Francisca Xavier died on August 30th. She has been Professor of the Department of Linguistics from 1978 to 2014 and researcher at CLUNL. Associate professor with aggregation, Maria Francisca Xavier was a PhD student in comparative linguistics from Nova University Lisbon, having presented evidence of aggregation in the area of Portuguese linguistics in 2005.  She was responsible for several research projects, being to highlight the project computerized Corpus of Medieval Portuguese, (CIPM).

She was currently involved in coordinating the Dictionary of Verbs of Medieval Portuguese. As a lecturer, she was responsible for several disciplines and seminars, especially in the syntax domain.

Active and committed to academic life, Maria Francisca Xavier was, in addition to the coordinator of the Department of Linguistics, President of the Pedagogical Council of NOVA FCSH and pro-Rector of the Nova University Lisbon.

Maria Francisca Xavier leaves a profound mark on all students and colleagues who have had the privilege of knowing and sharing with her the enthusiasm and joy of living.
