The Universidade Nova de Lisboa is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mário Soares.
Mário Soares, who NOVA honored with the Honoris Causa doctorate in 1996, was one of the greatest Portuguese personalities of the 20th century, a major defender of European values and a permanent fighter for freedom, democracy, social justice and peace.
