The passing of Professor Eduardo Lourenço that occurred yesterday, constitutes a loss for our country and for the Portuguese culture that it is important to highlight at this moment.
Eduardo Lourenço, throughout his life, much of which was spent outside his native territory, in France, was a brilliant intellectual, adding his capacity as an essayist to that of an almost always constructive critic, attentive to the Portuguese, European and European reality and the contemporary world, reflecting and helping the thinking of successive generations about our cultures, realities and identities.
These attributes, evident in his intellectual production and in his acts of citizenship, and imbued with enormous serenity and humanity, led the NOVA UniversityLisbon to grant him the Honoris Causa Doctorate in 1998.
In this moment, on behalf of NOVA I would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of Professor Eduardo Lourenço for the loss of this colleague, brilliant intellectual and emeritus Portuguese .
