Santa Casa and NOVA create Clinical Academic Centre in Rehabilitation

With the signing of this protocol, the two institutions have committed themselves to promoting research and development in the field of rehabilitation, as well as a joint degree in social services management.

The brand new Clinical Academic Centre in Rehabilitation will bring together the facilities and research units of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML) and NOVA University Lisbon. In other words, it will integrate the Alcoitão Higher School of Health (ESSALCOITÃO), the Sant'Ana Orthopaedic Hospital and the Alcoitão Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre - facilities belonging to SCML – and some of NOVA FCT's research units, such as the Laboratory of Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Physics, NOVA LINCS (leading research laboratory in Computer Science and Informatics) and the Centre for Technology and Systems.

But not only that. According to the protocol signed last Friday, the 15th, by the Rector of NOVA, João Sàágua, and the Ombudsman of SCML, Ana Jorge, the objective is to strengthen the synergies between the two institutions, develop cooperation and exchange relations in areas of common interest, especially in pre- and post-graduate training.

For this reason, the creation of a joint degree between the ESSALCOITÃO of the SCML and the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (FCSH) of the UNL, within the framework of Social Facilities Administration, is also foreseen.

In this way, NOVA and SCML intend to create the conditions for the development of joint social and community intervention activities in the geographical area of intervention of both entities.
