For the fourth consecutive year NOVA is the sole Portuguese university featured in the ranking QS Top 50 under 50. In the 2016/2017 edition of this global ranking – one of the most important for universities under 50 years – NOVA has been ranked 41st, an improvement of four places from the previous year. This ranking is based on the results of the renowned QS World University Rankings in which NOVA is listed and recently confirmed its leadership among Portuguese institutions in faculty and student internationalization, teacher/student ratio, and employer reputation. "I am extremely pleased with these results that confirm that, despite its youth and the strong competition of other universities on a global scale, NOVA is a vibrant and rising institution that shows a growing capacity of producing relevant research, providing world-class teaching and obtaining recognition from the academic community and beyond – from students and their families to the employers" comments the Rector of NOVA, Professor António Rendas. The QS World University Rankings – which serves as the basis for QS Top 50 under 50 –annually assesses around 3.800 universities from all over the world analyzing several indicators such as academic reputation, employer reputation, citations, teacher/student ratio, international faculty and international students.
