Universidade NOVA de Lisboa has climbed 20 positions in the Leiden ranking and is the leader in Portugal, according to the list provided by the Center for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of Leiden University which also measures the performance, the quality and the impact of scientific production of 750 universities worldwide. The Portuguese institution also holds the sixth position among the Iberian Peninsula and also ranks the 169th place in Europe.
"This results acknowledges the efforts, the joint work as well as the initiatives carried out in the last years which clearly attests NOVA as a National and International reference in scientific knowledge, in the field of research, innovation and serves also as a liaison to local society" as stated by the Rector, António Rendas.
The North American Universities occupies the first 16 places in the ranking with MIT, Harvard and Stanford holding the first three positions.
Leiden ranking relies exclusively on biographic data from the web of Science and Thomson Reuters.
