Sea4us is developing an innovative analgesic for the treatment of Chronic pain, in collaboration with NOVA Medical School|Faculdade de Ciências Médicas. Created in 2013, Sea4us uses marine organisms for development of new pharmaceutical drugs, with no current adequate treatment.
Chronic Pain is a syndrome that affects 21% of the world population. The analgesic being developed by Sea4Us originates from a marine invertebrate present in our sea and will act on a protein located in neurons from the dorsal root ganglia, outside the spinal column, which are a kind of switches to the input of pain to the brain.
The work of Sea4us is based on two main pillars: marine biology and neuropharmacology. The neural activity tests are conducted at NOVA Medical School|Faculdade de Ciências Médicas.
