Professor João Paulo Oliveira e Costa, of NOVA's Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, was distinguished by the Japanese Emperor Akihito with The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, for his contribution to the promotion of the history of Japan and mutual understanding and friendship bonds between Japan and Portugal.
